You’ve booked your wedding photography consultation.
Maybe you’ve already looked through portfolios, compared packages and narrowed your list down to a few photographers you really like. Or maybe this is your very first consultation, and you’re not quite sure what to expect.
This isn’t a sales meeting. It’s simply a relaxed conversation about your wedding, your vision and what matters most to you. You don’t need to have every detail figured out yet, and there won’t be any pressure to make a decision before the connection call is over.
We’ll spend our time getting to know each other, talking about your wedding plans, answering your questions and helping you decide whether we’re the right fit. Along the way, we’ll share how we work, learn what’s most important to you and talk through any ideas or concerns you have.
Our hope is that you’ll leave the conversation feeling informed, comfortable and excited about whatever comes next, whether that’s booking with us or simply continuing your search with greater confidence.
Before We Meet
Once your wedding photography consultation is booked, we’ll send you a confirmation along with a reminder email about 48 hours before we meet. That email includes our pricing guide, so you’ll have time to look through everything before we chat.
We don’t expect you to have your wedding planned from start to finish. If you’ve already booked your venue and know your ceremony time, that’s great. If you’re still deciding between two venues or haven’t worked out your timeline yet, that’s completely okay too.
Most wedding photography consultations last about 45 to 60 minutes, although every conversation is a little different. We usually meet over Zoom or FaceTime, whichever you’re most comfortable using. We recommend joining from a quiet place where you can relax without distractions, but beyond that, there’s very little you need to prepare.
If you already have questions, it’s a good idea to write them down beforehand. If you don’t have any questions yet, don’t worry. Part of our job is guiding the conversation and helping you think about the things you may not have considered yet.
This isn’t a test, and there are no right or wrong answers. Every couple is at a different stage of planning, and we’ll meet you exactly where you are.
First, We Get to Know You
Every wedding is different because every couple is different. That’s why we don’t begin by talking about cameras, packages or timelines. We begin by getting to know you.
We’ll start by asking how you met, what you’re most looking forward to on your wedding day and what kind of celebration you’re planning. Some couples are planning an intimate gathering with their closest family and friends. Others are counting down to a dance floor that stays full until the last song. Neither is better than the other. We want to understand what matters most to you and what you want your day to feel like.
Then we’ll spend some time talking about the people who matter most to you. Are there grandparents you’ll want extra photographs with? Family traditions you’re excited to include? A surprise planned for your partner? These details help us understand which moments deserve a little extra attention.
As we talk, we’re also getting to know you as people. Some couples love being in front of the camera. Others tell us they’re nervous before we’ve even finished introductions. Both are completely normal. The more we understand you, the more natural your photographs will feel.
By now, we usually have a much clearer picture of your wedding day—not just how it’s going to look, but what it means to you. That’s the foundation for everything that comes next.
Then We Start Planning Your Photography
Once we have a better understanding of your wedding day, we’ll start talking about how photography fits into it.
If your timeline is still taking shape, we’ll happily share what we’ve learned from photographing weddings across Ontario and help you build a schedule that gives you enough time to enjoy your day.
We’ll also spend some time talking about the photographs that matter most to you. Maybe it’s spending as much time as possible with your guests. Maybe it’s a quiet first look before the ceremony. Maybe you’ve dreamed about sunset portraits or have family traditions that are especially important to document. There isn’t a right answer. Our goal is to understand what will make your gallery feel complete.
We’ll also explain how we photograph a wedding day. We’ll walk through our documentary approach, when we’ll naturally step back and observe, and the moments where we’ll provide gentle direction so you never have to wonder what to do.
Next, we’ll walk through the flow of your day as it stands. If you already have a timeline, we’ll talk about how your photography can fit naturally within it. If you don’t, that’s perfectly fine. We’ll help you understand how much time different parts of the day typically take and answer any questions you have along the way.
You’ll leave this part of the conversation with a much clearer idea of what your wedding photography experience could look like—not just on the wedding day itself, but from the moment you book through to the day your final gallery arrives.
Your Questions
No two wedding photography consultations are ever exactly the same because no two couples have the same questions.
Some couples want to talk about timelines and how much photography coverage they need. Others are thinking about family portraits, engagement sessions, what happens if it rains or how long it takes to receive their gallery. Whatever’s on your mind, ask.
If we don’t know an answer during our conversation, we’ll tell you. We’d rather give you accurate information after the call than guess in the moment.
Just as importantly, this is your opportunity to get a feel for us as people. You’ll learn how we communicate, how we approach a wedding day and whether you can picture spending one of the biggest days of your life with us. Technical skill matters, but so does the experience of having photographers by your side for eight or more hours.
Before we finish, we want you to feel like you have the information you need to make the decision that’s right for you. Whether that’s with us or another photographer, our goal is the same: we want you to feel confident moving forward with your wedding plans.
What Happens After the Consultation?
Before we say goodbye, we’ll answer any final questions and ask how you’re feeling about everything we’ve discussed. If you already know you’d like to move forward, that’s wonderful. If you’d like some time to think about it, that’s completely okay too.
Choosing your wedding photographer is an important decision, and we genuinely believe you should feel confident in it. We’d much rather you take the time you need than feel rushed into a decision.
If you decide we’re the right fit, we’ll send over your proposal, contract and invoice through HoneyBook. Once your contract is signed and your retainer is paid, your wedding date is officially reserved in our calendar.
If you decide to keep looking, we hope the conversation has still been valuable. Our goal has never been to pressure anyone into booking. We’d rather answer your questions honestly, help you understand what to look for in a wedding photographer and leave you feeling more confident than when we first met.
