You Clicked “Submit.” Now What?
Hitting “submit” on a wedding inquiry can feel strangely intimidating.
Maybe you’ve spent weeks comparing photographers, scrolling through galleries and wondering how you’re supposed to choose the people who will document one of the biggest days of your life. Maybe you’ve finally worked up the courage to reach out, only to wonder what happens next.
If you’re still deciding who feels like the right fit, this might be a good place to start: When Should You Book Your Wedding Photographer? How to Know You’ve Found the Right Fit.
Will someone email you right away?
Will you finally see pricing?
Are you expected to make a decision immediately?
The good news is that none of it has to feel complicated.
Every photographer has a different way of handling new inquiries, but for us, the goal is simple. We want your first experience to feel clear, comfortable and completely pressure-free. Before we ever talk about booking, we want you to have the information you need to decide whether we’re the right fit for your wedding.
The First Email Should Answer More Questions Than It Creates
As soon as your inquiry comes through our website, you’ll automatically receive our pricing guide.
Inside you’ll find our package pricing, a little more about how we work, answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often and kind words from couples we’ve had the privilege of photographing. You’ll also find an easy way to schedule a connection call if you’d like to continue the conversation.
If you’d rather skip the guide and simply receive our pricing sheets, that’s completely fine too. Just send us an email at hello@thatphotographercouple.ca and we’ll happily send them over. Let us know your wedding date and whether you’ve already booked your venue. If you haven’t settled on a date yet, that’s completely okay. Just tell us the season and year you’re hoping to get married, and we’ll take it from there.
When you email us directly, we usually reply within two hours. During wedding season, Saturdays can be a little different. If we’re spending the day photographing a wedding, our response may take a little longer, but we always aim to get back to you within twenty-four hours.
The important part is this – you won’t be left wondering whether your message disappeared into the internet.
A Conversation Before a Commitment
If your wedding date is available, the next step is simply getting to know each other.
For most couples, that’s a connection call over Zoom. If it makes more sense to meet in person, we’re happy to do that too.
This isn’t a presentation. It isn’t a sales pitch. It’s an opportunity to connect.
We’ll learn about your wedding, hear what you’re envisioning and walk you through how we approach photographing a wedding day. You’ll have the opportunity to ask every question that’s on your mind, whether it’s about coverage, timing, our process or something you haven’t seen answered anywhere else.
Just as importantly, you’ll get a sense of whether we feel like the people you want beside you on your wedding day.
Photography is personal. The connection matters just as much as the photographs.
There Is Never Pressure to Decide Right Away
One of the biggest misconceptions couples have is that a consultation ends with a decision. It doesn’t.
We believe choosing your wedding photographer should feel comfortable, not rushed. The only thing that reserves your wedding date is a signed contract and retainer. Until then, your date remains available.
If another couple is also considering the same date, we’ll always let you know. During Ontario’s busiest wedding season, especially from May through mid-October, weekends can fill quickly. We’d rather be transparent than have you caught by surprise.
Our job isn’t to pressure you into booking. Our job is to help you make an informed decision.
You Don’t Need Everything Figured Out Yet
Some couples apologize before the consultation even begins.
“We don’t have a timeline.”
“We haven’t finalized the ceremony time.”
“We’re still deciding on the reception.”
Please don’t worry.
Most couples haven’t figured out every detail when they first reach out.
Your connection call isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about talking through where you are now and where you’re hoping your plans will go. We’ll explore what’s already decided, what still needs to come together and what kind of photography experience you’re hoping to create.
Those details naturally fall into place as the planning continues.
Good Communication Starts Long Before the Wedding Day
One thing we’ve learned over the years is that the best wedding days usually don’t begin on the wedding day.
They begin with good communication.
Questions are always welcome, whether you’ve just sent your first inquiry, you’re six months into planning or your gallery has already been delivered.
Some questions are big. Some are incredibly small. BUT – Both matter.
We would much rather you ask than spend weeks wondering.
That’s one of the reasons we follow up if we haven’t heard from you after sending your pricing guide. Sometimes life gets busy or an email gets buried in your inbox. Other times you simply haven’t had a chance to sit down together yet.
Our follow-up isn’t meant to rush you. It’s simply our way of making sure you have everything you need.
Every Couple’s Journey Looks Different
Every couple’s experience looks a little different.
Some ask lots of questions throughout the planning process. Others arrive at their wedding day with just a few questions because we’ve already covered everything together.
Nicole and Dimitri’s experience is a great example.
We first met them at the Wedding Ring Barrie Simcoe County Wedding Expo before reconnecting on a Zoom connection call not long afterwards. It quickly became clear they had a thoughtful vision for their wedding, and Nicole’s organized approach made planning together easy.
As their plans came together, we met again over Zoom with them and their wedding coordinator, Stephanie from Complete Weddings Toronto. Together, we walked through the photography timeline, the flow of the day and the moments that mattered most to them.
By the time their wedding arrived, everyone knew what to expect. There were no unanswered questions, no uncertainty about the photography schedule and no wondering what came next. They were free to focus on each other while we documented the story they had spent months planning.
Communication doesn’t have to be constant to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s a handful of thoughtful conversations at exactly the right moments that make all the difference.
If you’d like to see how their day came together, you can read their story here: Nicole & Dimitri’s Elora Mill Wedding Blog.
Planning your wedding? We’ll also be exhibiting at this September’s Wedding Ring Barrie Simcoe County Wedding Expo. If you’re attending, we’d love the opportunity to meet you in person.
Every Wedding Starts With a Conversation
Planning a wedding comes with plenty of decisions, but reaching out to your photographer shouldn’t feel like one of the difficult ones.
Our hope is that by the time we finish talking, you’ll have a better understanding of how we work, what the experience looks like and whether we’re the right fit for your wedding.
No pressure.
No expectations.
Just an honest conversation about your plans, your vision and the story you’re getting ready to write together.
Every wedding we’ve ever photographed started exactly the same way. One inquiry. One conversation. Two people excited about the future and hoping to find the right fit in a photographer they could trust to tell their story.
If that sounds like the kind of experience you’re looking for, we’d love to meet you.
Submit your inquiry, take a look through the pricing guide and book your complimentary connection call. Bring your questions, your ideas and everything you’re still figuring out. We’ll take it from there.
